This is the second post in this blog and Iam directly into Blog Monetization Strategies, because I don’t want people mailing everyday asking for ways they can monetize their blogs, living in India or anywhere in the world.

There are several ways by which you can monetize your blogs which is impossible to cover in one single post. I have divided this into four parts series.

So you have a blog and want to make some money from it. There are a lot of different issues to take into account when monetizing a blog. Unless you have your own product, like I have two products OnlineRobber and OnlineRobberSystem. You are ultimately going to be making money from advertising other people’s products or websites or services in a variety of different forms. This post will mostly cover making money from advertising and selling other peoples products using your blog.

Eight Key questions you need to think before you start monetizing your blog.

1.  Who is my reader and is he web-savvy enough to recognize what is an advertisement and what isn’t?

2.  Is my blog a small niche blog or a flagship blog with loyal readership.

3.  How does traffic reach my blog and what does my reader expect from the blog?

4.  Do my reader trust and understand what I write?

5.  Does my blog have a narrow niche topic or a broad mainstream one?

6.  One of the key questions you need to think is Does your blog make you look like a trusted authority or an entertainer.

7.  What countries does my traffic come from?

8. What are some keywords/categories that describe my blog?

Who is my reader and is he web-savvy enough to recognize what is an advertisement and what isn’t?

You need to understand who your reader is, before that you need to decide, is your blog a high maintenance blog or a niche blog where you are tightly focused on a topic. Once you decide where your blog exactly fits, then you need to think about the readership.

What if my blog High Maintenance Blog (Flag ship Blog) :

High maintenance blogs tend to have a brand of their own with high traffic and loyal readership. Loyal readers visit the site to read the content rather than searching for an answer to a very specific question. Although, flagship blog receives search engine traffic as well, but because it is regularly and consistently updated it builds a loyal following usually much larger than the search engine traffic.

Niche blogs :

A niche blog is a blog that is updated less frequently and on a more tightly focused topic than a high maintenance blog. Most of the visitors find the blog through search engines and will leave once they have found the answer to what they want, or if they believe they believe a link from the niche blog will lead them to the answer. Every blog is in a niche, but for the sake of simplicity “niche blog” has become correct phrase to use on smaller blogs. Niche blogs mostly change into high maintenance blogs (flagship blogs) by the author if they are going well.

What if my blog is a high maintenance blog and my readers are niche blog readers?

One of the major concerns with many high traffic blogs is that they tend to miss the core blog monetization strategies which we will covering in a great detail in this four part series. For now let’s continue with the blog differentiation.  If your blog is a niche blog then you need to understand that your readers come most of the time from search engines and tend to go away quickly from your blog. To get those readers stick to your blog and come back at a later time for more information is the most important strategy you need to concentrate on. I have seen many niche blogs facing this problem as they tend to lose a lot of search engine traffic.

When to Monetize a niche blog :

With a niche blog there is very little to loose from monetizing it straight away because it does not ‘hurt’ the growth of the blog because you are not trying to keep readers on the blog. In addition, because PPC is the primary weapon of choice with a niche blog, you do not have to have a substantial traffic to start making money.

The main factor is time management with niche blogs which we will be covering in a great detail in the coming posts because there is no point in spending time experimenting with a niche blog’s monetization until it has enough traffic to allow you to make a valid judgement, but it is still worth monetizing immediately. Iam not planning to monetize my blog until it has enough traffic flowing in day by day. I started this blog to share my thoughts and ways i teach people in our books and videos. In the next post we will discussing on how you can monetize your niche blogs and convert the incoming traffic into loyal readers making it a flagship blogs.

For now if you have a niche blog and are trying to monetize it then please share the ways so that we can include it in our future posts.

Thanks

Srikanth,
Thank you for your blog monetization techniques. The key tip (what I understood) is the getting number of loyal readers. Am I right?
